Refunds and Returns

Return Policy for Individuals

Returns of eligible, undamaged purchases are accepted only within 30 days of the invoice date. A packing slip must be enclosed with the return. Your request may be denied due to any of the following:

  • The request to return product(s) was not received within 30 days of the invoice date.
  • A packing slip was not enclosed with the return.
  • The returned product(s) is discontinued or out of print and returns are not being accepted.
  • The returned book(s) was damaged and in non-saleable condition and cannot be returned to inventory**. No refund will be given***.

Products that are not eligible for return under any circumstance include e-books, custom products, and books with access codes revealed (scratch-off coating removed).

**Damage includes but is not limited to highlighting or other marks; bent, cut, or torn covers or pages; other signs of use or damage such that the item cannot be considered in “new” condition (for example, a broken or worn spine). All components included with the purchase must be included with the return. To avoid damage during return shipping, please ensure the books are properly packed to withstand shipping stresses. Please package securely and include additional packing materials as needed.

***If a return is received that meets any of the above criteria, the merchandise will be destroyed and no credit will be issued. Your damaged book will not be returned to you.

If an order qualifies for a volume discount-based minimum order quantity, any returns that cause the new order quantity to fall below the qualifying quantity will result in the order being recalculated at the item’s full price. If the value of the recalculated order is below the paid original order value, the difference will be refunded. If the recalculated order balance exceeds the original paid order value, the customer will be charged the order balance unpaid.

AHIMA Return Merchandise Authorization for Bookstores and Resellers

Returns of eligible, undamaged purchases are accepted only with a return merchandise authorization (RMA). Authorization may be requested by fax (312) 233-1500 or email (purchase@ahima.org). The return must be received within 30 days of RMA approval. The RMA return request may not exceed the same product quantity of the qualifying order. However, multiple RMAs may be returned in a comingled carton. All RMA returns must include the RMA packing list. Resellers requesting an RMA will receive the RMA procedures, shipping instructions, and printable RMA packing list to enclose with their returns.

A return authorization may be denied due to any of the following:

  • A packing slip was not enclosed with the return.
  • A new edition of the returned product(s) has been available for 90 days and returns are no longer being accepted.
  • The returned product(s) is out of print and returns are not being accepted.
  • The returned book(s) was damaged and cannot be returned to inventory. No refund will be given.**
  • The RMA return exceeded the same product quantity of the qualifying order.

A packing slip must be enclosed with the return. We cannot accept returns of out-of-print or discontinued products. Under no circumstances will AHIMA accept a return for a product more than 90 days after its new edition publishes or it is declared out of print/end-of-life. Return of products deemed ineligible or damaged (including during return shipping) will not be returned to the customer who will not receive a refund for the ineligible or damaged product.
